Next we had to write down what product or service is being advertised, Who might be intrested in the products or service, there slogan ( If they had one ), What message the advertisment is trying to say about there product or service, how does the language or photo grab the readers attention & how may the advertisment make the viewer feel. This week in reading we are learning about CRAAP ( Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy & Purpose ). Each group was given a text and our groups text was about stopping bullying. First we had to make a QAR ( Question Answer Relationship ) about the questions from our text. Next we had to make a synthesis about what we have learnt. Lastly we had to make a script for a Flipgrid video that relates to our text. If you want to watch my video then click on the link below.

This week in inquiry we are learning about the pulley. A pulley is a simple machine that makes certain jobs easier. For example making buildings. First we had to get two sticks and a rope and we would make a pulley that brings the sticks closer together. We also had to watch two videos about pulleys and then we had to fill out a DLO ( Digital Learning Object ) about the Definition of a pulley, If making more loops made it easier to pull the sticks closer together, Seeing the amount of ropes we used & Lastly we had to make a drawing of where we have seen pulleys being used. My Groups drawing was a crane lifting something up.

Swimming | Kiwi Sport

LI: To learn about water safety.
For swimming the strokes we did were Freestyle & Backstroke. In freestyle you have to stroke three times and then breathe. In backstroke you have to do the same a freestyle but on your back, but we would always stay on our back with straight arms and we had to twist our hands when our arms touch our head. Cybersmart | Print Design Rules

LI: To apply the print design rules.
The four different areas of the print design rules are Layout, Color, Text & Composition. Layout controls how you align things. Color Controls the colors that you use. Text controls the size, color & font that is in your text. Lastly Composition is the balance of text and images that you have.In this task we had to fix different DLO's ( Digital Learning Object ) using the four print design rules.

Maths | Proportions

LI: To identify a range of proportions
The proportion is the amount of two ratios or fractions are equivalent by. It could be a whole number or a fraction. This term we are managing money, finances, rent and more. We have commissions or jobs we have to do before a specific day, and we get payed based on how we do it. If we do the job well we get paid more, if we just make it basic we get less money. My commission was to do a quiz on Proportion Problems. The commission is a Work In Progress.

Swimming | Kiwi Sport

LI: To learn how to properly save someone.
The strokes that we did were streamline, freestyle & backstroke. After we had done those strokes we were learning how to save someone properly. James showed us a demonstration using me and we had to remake that example with a partner. When I say saving properly I mean not risking your life or anyone else's. So to do that you have to throw something ( That can float ) that you & the drowning person can reach and hold onto. Next you have to pull the person back to shore. So going back to swimming, We had to throw a noodle out to our partener and pull them back, but the proper position when pulling someone back is lying down because if you sit or stand you will most likely be pulled in.

Ihumatao | Reading

LI: To identify the main idea from a text.
we were working on our last slide for the whole Ihumatao slides. We had to write our thoughts, 3 reasons on why & a conclusion. We are also making creative art work related to Ihumatao. First we had to finish our POV ( The thoughts, reasons and conclusion ) & then we could move onto art. I think that Fletchers ( Building ) should leave Ihumatao alone. To know more about why I think that read the slide below.

LI: To learn about Self Control and Self Discipline.
For our activity we were given four challenges and we had to do them all in a minute. The first challenge was doing 5 press ups, 5 sit ups, 5 squats and 5 burpees as many times as we could in a minute. The next challenge was us trying to match the Maori colors with the english colors ( The colors were just words for example: Green & Kakariki ). After that challenge we had to try and write the alphabet backwards. The last challenge was us doing the Kiwi Can catchphrase but with our own actions. One of the hard ones for me were making up our own actions for the catchphrase. I got through this challenge by Showing resilience and I also was trying not to be nervous.

Incline Planes | Inquiry

LI: To learn about incline plain.
A incline wheel is  A plane that has one side higher than the other, it helps to bring loads to a high or low place. We had a poster for incline plain and we had to answer the questions on the poster. We then had to use cars and test the different ramps or incline plains to see an complete the challenge. The first was to push the car on incline planes that were on different angles, and the second one was to try to make the car keep going when it goes on the ground. We did the second one because when it went down there was a big gap so the car would go out of control.

Speech Finals

LI: To show confidence by performing speechs.
We had speech finals and 1-3 people from each year level ( New Entrance-Y8 ). Fau & Sulia were representing LS1 by talking about the Dangers of technolgy & Being Friendlier. A english teacher from Tamaki College was our special guest/judge. Year 1-3 were reciting poems and year 4-8 were performing speechs. My favourite poem was Micaela's and my favourite speechs was Jack's & Fau's. I liked Micaela's because she is a new student and she had the confidence to stand up infront of the whole school. Jack's speech was my favourite out of the year 7-8 because he talked about plagarism which is a very important topic. Also Fau's speech was my favourite out of the year 4-6 because the way she said it, she sounded very confident.

Inquiry | Wheel & Axle | Lever

LI: To learn about Science, Technolgy, Engineering, Arts and Mathmatics.
For our first session we were learning about the wheel and axle ( A simple machine using friction to make moving things easier ). First we got to play around with some toy cars and see the speed and travel distance on the wheels and then the top. We had to record the speed & travel distance on different surfaces. After playing with the cars we had to make a DIY ( Do It Yourself ) wheel & axle. The next session we had to do was about Levers. We had two different examples of a lever, and we also had to make our own lever. After we had made our lever we had to make a google draw about a lever. In the google draw we had to include the definition of a lever, if the lever made things easier to move, if moving the fulcrom away or closer was easier & a drawing of different levers.

The Lion King Performance

Mr Ogilvies Reading groups had a amazing oppurtunity to go to the Ormiston Junior College. We were there because they were showing us a matinee ( a dramatic and musical performance ). We went to this performance because it links in with the plays that we are doing in reading. I was very inspired by this performance because they were not that afraid to sing loud and proud, also because they put a lot of hard work into these. My favourite character in the show was Pumba a Timone because they were very funny. The actors of Pumba and Timone are Jordan and Avi. A big thank you to Ryan and Luke for getting us there because I really enjoyed it a lot.

Kiwi Can

Today for Kiwi Can we learnt about emotions and how we could understand them. We didn't go in group A and Group B because of a special event we were having. We also learnt about letting our emotions out instead of letting them build up. The energizer was called emotion card. In this game you would be given a card with a emotion on it and you had to find people with cards that relate to you. Lastly you had to form a group with them and put the cards i order of intensity. Our activity was called Emotional Roleplays. We would get into groups and each group would have a play to act out. My groups play was about a sports game.

My Greeting and goodbye was Kia Ora and Keep up the good work because I didn't know the Maori saying for goodbye.

This week in Swimming our new teacher was James, and he was the teacher of our group. The things we did were streamline, freestyle, Backstroke, Dolphin kicks, Bounce and breathes and a couple strokes of our choice. The new skills we learnt were Dolphin kicks and Bounce and breathes. To do dolphin kicks you basically have to do the worm but underwater. To do the bounce and breathe you have to go to the bottom of the deep water blow bubbles and then bounce back up to breathe.
