Rube Goldberg

LI: to make a working Rube Goldberg machine by using the 6 simple machines.
Over the past weeks, in groups LS1 had to make a Rube Goldberg machine, We used the 6 simple machines. Wheel and axle, Lever, Incline plane, Pulley, Screw & Wedge had to be included. The challenges were turning a Chromebook on, helping Mr Wong roll dice and hitting a putter. Our scenario was turning on the Chromebook.

On the last week our group had managed to get the machine finish. We used four different types of simple machines a wheel and axle, pulley, incline plane and a lever. For the wheel and axle we used a car. For the Pulley we used a string from a yo-yo and latches from the window. For the incline plane we used a marble roll down a ramp. And used the dominoes as the lever.

The most challenging task was creating the machines and trying to apply the 6 simple machines and communicating with our group to know what is going on and how we could help. I'd change another way of putting dominoes up without it falling because we always had to keep putting it up and the amount of sellotape we used.

From this task I learnt more about players and there positions, I also learnt what they look like so next time I can find them.

RWC | Rugby World Cup

LI: apply inquiry, literacy and numerecy skills to learn about the Rugby World Cup.
For this learning task I had to complete what the time would be in the different countries during the final of the RWC. The final kick off would be at 6pm Japanese time. The time zones of the different countries compared to Japan are shown on the table. For big countries like America, Australia and Canada we had to split them up into west and east coast times. It was very important that we used AM and PM, AM stands for Ante Meridian ( Before Midday ) & PM stands for Post Meridian ( After Midday ). My group also had to convert the times into 24 hour times.

Reading | Fun, Fantastic, Fabulous Fitness Flipgrid

LI: To synthesise information for the CRAAP test.
In reading we had to finish our next QAR ( Question Answer Relationship ) which was about Fun, Fantastic, Fabulous Fitness. In QAR There are four different types of questions which are Right There, Think & Search, Author and Me/You & On My Own. Right there means the Answer is right there in the text, A Think & Search question is when the answer may be in the paragraph but you have to search other places to find it, Author and Me/You means using your background knowledge and what the author has told you to come up with your own answer & On My Own means you can walk up to anyone and ask them the question.
Next we had to do our synthesis ( Prior Knowledge - New Informtation - New Understanding ) and then we had to show a script for our flipgrid. To watch my flipgrid click the link below.

Kiwi Sport | Swimming

LI: To learn water safety.
In Swimming ( Kiwi Sport ) the strokes we did were streamline, Freestyle, Backstroke and me and another person got to do Breathestroke. We had a new instructor for week 8 and her name was Karen ( Sorry if I spelt it wrong ). In Streamline we have to keep our arms stiff and straight behind our ears. In freestyle we have to do windmill arms and each three strokes we would turn on our side to breathe, then we would turn back onto our stomachs. Backstroke is like freestyle but on our backs ( Also we dont flip to "breathe" ). Full Breathestroke timing is pull ( With your arms ), breathe ( Above water ) & Kick glide ( For 2-3 seconds ). The thing is you have to keep your knees together and make your legs go in a circle.

Kiwi Can | Dealing With Challenges

We need to practice dealing with challenges to deal with them easily in the future. We did a Bus Stop activity. We had to get into groups and each group had a photo of a person doing a challenge. We had to explain what the challenges were, How the person doing the challenge feels and how they could fix the problem. Everytime a Kiwican leader said swap we would have to give our photo to the group next to us and it would work as a rotation.

Ads vs Reality | Writing

LI: To learn about persuasive tools in advertising
Advertising is a media to show a product to sell or service to use. In advertisements they use persuasive tools to persuade people to buy or use the product or service. This week we were talking about a spokesperson or a mascot for a company. Like McDonalds mascot is Ronald McDonald. Our slide had us talk about celebrity endorsements as well. Like how Lionel Messi has a deal with Adidas. We then had to write down our POV on celebrity endorsements as well as other examples. We then had to find slogans for food companies, tech companies and more. Lastly we had to write down a slogan for our school and write down advertising effects in commercials.

LI : To learn about simple machines (the screw).
The Archimedes screw is what we were learning about in inquiry. We did a test on trying to make on how we could make an Archimedes screw. We had a tube and a long stick and a bucket full of water, an Archimedes helps water travel from the bottom travel to the top (using the tubes ). When we did this test we then had to fill in a google drawing explaining what a Archimedes screw is with questions about the test we did (there were also videos explain what a Archimedes screw is).

Cybersmart| Print Design Rules

LI: To apply the print design.
In Cybersmart we had to apply the print design rules to a poster related to one of the six simple machines. The 4 areas of the print design rules are color, text, layout & composition. Color controls the colors that you use, Text controls the aligning of the texts, layout controls where things go and composition controls the balance of text and images.

Maths | Artwork Plan

LI: To measure the length and calculate the perimeter and area.
In maths we are learning about measurments. To figure out the area of something you have to multiply the height and width. We are also doing artwork. The pieces of art we could choose from are tapa's, Geometric Landscapes, 3D shape shading and Geometric Abstract Art. We had to measure the width and height of the two blank spaces in LS1

There are two different types of challenges which are physical and mental. Our energizer was trying to follow commands without being tricked. Our activity was getting into groups of three and we had to try and cooperate to make a addition ( Plus or Cross ) symbol out of six shapes.
