Kupe & Cook

Kupe and Cook are 2 important explorers in New Zealand History.

Kupe
Kupe arrived in New Zealand in the 1100's. He traveled by traditional methods on a traditional sail boat. Myth has it he followed a giant Octopus. He did this voyage to find new land for his people to live. His wife named New Zealand Aotearoa after seeing mountains under the clouds.

Cook
Cook arrived in New Zealand in 1769. He arrived in New Zealand in the Endeavour which was an armored boat. He was trying to find the unkown southern continent ( Australia ) but instead found New Zealand.

Kupe is important because he was the first documented person in New Zealand.
