LI: To learn how to sail.
This week 18 kids went out to have a go at sailing with the volvo sailing club. Huge thanks to Rotary and Yaughting New Zealand for letting us have a chance at sailing because I loved what happened down there and it wouldn't of been posible without them letting us come down and have an amazing time sailing. Our instuctors were called Justin, Steven and J.R. The first step we learnt to become sailers was to assemble your boat with your partner. Me and Spelman had to try and not be hit by the boom because that nearly happened to me last year. Next we put on some sunblock and had some morning tea before we started sailing because we were out there for 2 hours. We had a toilet break and then we started our sailing. We sailed 3 and a half to nearly 4km ( kilometers ) but we sailed around about 3.37km. Once we got back we had some food, more sunblock and another toilet break. for the last sail we got wet and wild. The instuctors threw little balls and squirt guns out into the water for us to get. One of my favourite bits was to stand on the front of other people's boats including Mr Wong's. then we were allowed to cap size our boats in order to earn our certifacate. Then we all sailed back got changed filled out a form and left. We learnt this skill by being taught by the intsructors ( Justin, Steven and J.R ).
