Commenting

LI: To make a smart comment.
This week I commented on my friend Vayans blog. I accidentally wrote Ong's name but I meant Vayan's. A smart comment must include positive feedback in the form of question and a greeting with a goodbye.

Gymnastics

This was the third week of gymnastics. We started the with stretches, the ones that we did today were the L shape, the seal, the butterfly and the cat. This week we had three rotations., rotation 1 had the the  beam where we had to walk and jump mid may through and try to reach the end without falling. For the second obstacle we had to do a chart wheel over a box. The third obstacle was the bench forward roll where we had to roll forward on a bench. The fourth and last obstacle was the dive roll, from the stage we had to get into the front support and the forward roll off the stage.

Rotation 2 started off with the backwards roll, here we had to tuck out  head and knee to not get hurt. The second obstacle was the one candle stand where we had to do a hand stand on one leg, then with two legs up and lastly with two legs together. The third obstacle was the spring board jump into a 360 degree turn. The last obstacle was the trampoline jump into diving forward roll, this obstacle.

Rotation three was the last rotation. To start it off it was the parallel bars, where we had to tuck out legs backwards. The second obstacle was the handstand against the wall using a bar on one leg. The third obstacle was the bar stand, where we had to use one bar to lift yourself up. The third obstacle was pres ups.The last obstacle was the back, side and front rotation.

Writing | Explanations and Procedures

LI: To use key vocabulary to unlock sentence and text structure.
This week in writing we are learning about explanations and procedures. First we had to write an explanation about Learn, Create and Share with our partners. My partner was Vayan. An explanation is telling to why and how something happens and a procedure is steps telling you how to do something.

Basic Facts

LI: To remember basic facts
This week for basic facts I had to answer which are addition, subtraction, multiplacation and division. I did Addition and subtraction up to 5 because I knew it would be quick for me to complete.

SSR Selfie

LI: To summarise and retell a text.
This week for SSR Selfie my book was called Matter and how it changes. My book is non-fiction and it tells you about what matter is and how it works. I also had to answer questions like what the book title is, who the author is, who the illustrator or photographer is and more on the slide below.

Reading | Play

LI: To build Expression.
For the past couple of weeks we have been doing plays and building on our expression. When we did our second play the part I enjoyed was watching sione T get "chucked" off the "boat". The most difficult part was stomping my left leg because my left leg was injured. I think that in the future I could use more expressions. I think my oral language improved by alot since the start of school. I don't think that there is anything that the teacher can change because I felt comfortable doing it the way we did.

Maths | Calculating Capacities

LI: To measure and work out different capacities.
Capacity is how much an object can hold. For our must do we measured capacity, to measure capacity you have to fill the object with water and pour that into a measuring cup and the number it is on is the amount of water you'll have. We also had word problems to solve.

Inquiry | Earth and Beyond

This week was the first week of our second rotation for Inquiry, LS1 and LS2 are joining together to learn more about space. We needed to use our prior knowledge about space to help us with our first activity which was a bus stop task that I worked together with Ong and Alex to complete. After that we watched a video on space and the planets in our solar system, we learnt things like Neptune rains diamonds and Venus is the hottest planet.

Cybersmart | Collaboration

LI: To collaborate on a task.
collaborating means making a group to finish you job. The first question we had to answer was what kind of language or actions do we use when collaborating. LS1 group A's answers were Encouragment, Focusing, Polite Language and sharing ideas. With our work when we collaborate we have to figure out what tasks there are and who is doing each task. Finally we had to make a meme about collaboration.

Friday 24 May 2019

Maths | Volume

LI: To calculate the volume of objects by measuring the water displacements.
Volume is the amount of how much space an object contains. We made a poster about how to measure volume when using it. We also had to do a slide show filled with shapes, we had to figure out the volume of the shape. I learned by doing the google slides and making the poster.

Commenting

LI: To make a smart comment.
This week I commented on my friend Vayans blog. I accidentally wrote Ong's name but I meant Vayan's. A smart comment must include positive feedback in the form of question and a greeting with a goodbye.

Formal and Informal speech

LI: To learn about informal and formal.
Informal is casual language and formal language, formal is speaking in a proper way. We had to complete a grid of informal and formal speech. We had to make examples of informal and formal speech. I learned by learning about informal and formal.

Maori | What are patupaiarehe

L.I to learn about the patupaiarehe
This week in maori we had to make a DLO about what patupaiarehe are. Patupaiarehe are beings in Maori mythology, they are pale skinned and red haired. For our must do we created a slide answering these three questions, What are patupaiarehe? What are their powers? What is their weakness?

Inquiry | Rockets

LI: to build your own rockets
For Inquiry we started building our straw rockets. Our independent variable (the thing that we changed) was different nose cones. We mad one with a round nosecone, one with a flat nosecone and one with a pointy nosecone. Lastly we wrote our distances and the flat nosecone had the best average with a distance of 2 m and 50 cm and our hypothesis (prediction) was proven wrong because we chose the pointy nosecone.

Writing | Explanation

LI: to plan and write and explanation
we learnt what an explanation is. An explanation is How to do something or how something works. The must do was to rewrite an explanation about chocolate and how it's made. The structure of a explanation is T.I.M.E.S and it stands for Title, Introduction, Main Points, Explain Visually and the summary.

Reading | Play Summarisation

LI: To build expression
This week in reading we learnt about how to express our feelings using our words. We had to read our character lines that we have chosen in our story. When we perform our play we won't have anything to read of so reading our character lines gave us more practice. On the flipgrid response we had to summarise our play as our characters expression and emotion. The expression I used for my character was anger and one of my lines were " This is your final notice to leave this mooring ".

Kiwi Can

LI: To do things without being asked.
This week in Kiwi Can our topic was responsibilty and our theme was integrity. Our new catch phrase was " Responsible is what I am, thats the way of Kiwi Can ". We spoke as a group about the different responsibilities and what being responsible means. For our enregizer we had to pass the keys around in a circle while someone was in the middle trying to listen for the keys. The person in the middle has to point were the keys are. Our activity was called responsibility web. In that game we had to use skipping ropes to balance a ball in the middle while working together. Once it was balanced we had to walk from one side of the room to the other without the ball dropping.

Stardome

LI: To learn about our solar system.
Today some people from LS1 went to stardome to learn about our solar system. Stardome is a place that you can learn about space and other space related things. The first place we got to take a look at is the space room. In the spaceroom they taught us about the different things, stars and planets in our solar system. Our next task was to complete a quiz. We had ipads that had a photo and a question on them. To find out the question we had to find the photo and read what it says on it. While doing the quiz we were split up into teams and had different planet or moon names. Lastly we went to the planetarium to watch a movie about weather in space. The thing I found intresting is that there is a constellation called Betelgeuse and in another language it translates to armpit.

Inquiry | Force

LI: To understand force.
This week in inquiry we learnt about forces. Force is a push or pull action that makes things move. My group and I made a slide about what a force is, Natural Forces and air resistance. A natural force is a magnetic and gravitational force. air resistance allows you to go through air easily. I learnt this by being taught by Mr Ogilvie. The tool I used was just my chromebook.

Commenting

LI: To make a smart comment.
This week I commented on my friend Vayans blog. I accidentally wrote Ong's name but I meant Vayan's. A smart comment must include positive feedback in the form of question and a greeting with a goodbye.

SSR Selfie

LI: To summarise and retell a text.
This week for SSR Selfie my book was called Heat. My book is non-fiction and it tells you about what heat and how it works. I also had to answer questions like what the book title is, who the author is, who the illustrator or photographer is and more on the slide below. I learnt how to do this by being shown by Mr Wong. The tools I used to learn this skill were just my chromebook.

Basic Facts

LI: To remember basic facts
This week for basic facts I had to answer which are addition, subtraction, multiplacation and division. I did Addition and subtraction up to 5 because I knew it would be quick for me to complete. The tools I used to complete this were my chromebook and the app I used to do this was google spreadsheet.

Maths | Word Problems

LI: To identify the operation to use in a word problem.
In maths I was learning how to identify the operation to use in a word problem. I did this by Breaking the numbers up into 1's,10's,100's and so on. The tools I used were algorithim, Place Value Addition and etc. We had to read the question, draw a picture, write what we had to do to solve the quesition, write the starting and agent number ( the agent number is the number that you are changing ), show us working it out and the answer which has to be shown in a sentence.

Cybersmart | What is a relationship

LI: To learn what is a relationship.
For cybersmart we had to learn about relationships. For an example for a good relationship we had to make a comment on a students blog post. The blog post had to include greeting/feedback, positive feedback and a question. I learnt by being shown by Mr Wong. The tool I used was my chromebook.

Writing | Cause and Effect

LI: What is Cause & Effect.
This week for writing the task was us making a DLO about cause and effect. We also learnt about casual words or phrases. Cause is what happens and effect is why it happened. Cause and effect are just two ideas, two join them together we use casual words or phrase's. Casual words or phrase's can make cause and effect ideas not only join , but they make them make sense. This week I learned by making a cause and effect poster with my group. I learnt this by being taught by Mr Ogilvie. The tool I used was my chromebook and the app I used was google drawing.

Kiwisport | Gymnastics

LI: To develop body movements of Balance, Rotation & Strength.
This week for Gymnastics the stretches we did first were L shape, Seal, Butterfly, Cat, Straddle, Back/Front/Side Support.
Rotation 1
the first rotation included a beam were we had to walk backwards on, A box that we could try and to a cartwheel on and a bench that we had to do a forward role on.
Rotation 2
The second rotation included a trampoline that we had to jump on and in the air we had to do a star or starfish shape. In the second rotation we also did a backwards role down a ramp, Scopion handstands and a 180 degree jump off a board.
Rotation 3 & Reflection
The final rotation included a handstand, Front support, Parallel bars and a back/side/front support. We had to do our front support but on a cart. We did our handstand against a wall and put each leg out strait for 3 seconds. You can found out what we had to do on the parallel bars on last weeks blog post and the back/side/front support was the same as last weeks but our hands were on the ground this time.
I found the cartwheel on a box hard to do so next week I will try and do more of that.

Reading | Play Break Down

LI: To build vocabulary.
This week in reading we are learning another play. First we had to write a summary about the play. In our summary we had to write 6 new or intresting words from the play. Next we had to define 3 of the words from our new or intresting word list. Lastly in our play summary we had to summarise the play in 25 words or under. Next we had to do a play inference. In our play inference we had to include our lines, a more descriptive character interaction, a more descriptive Expression/Emotion, Things to portrait your character and what my character is trying to achieve. I learnt this by being taught by Mr Ogilvie. The tool I used was just my netbook.

Reading | Play Summary

LI: To build expresion.
This week in reading we are doing plays. There is also a flipgrid above of me summarising what the story is about. Unfortunately because of the lack of people in my group I didn't perform but we are going to perform next week. I learnt this by being taught by Mr Ogilvie. the tool I used was my netbook.

Writing | Explanation/Procedure/Information Report

LI: To learn what a explanation is.
This week in writing we learnt how to write an explanation text. First we had to choose a subject and then we made a plan about that subject. But then we changed what we did and started to write what a Explanation, Information Report and a Procedure is descriptively. Next we had to write what a Past tense, Passive Voice, Third person and time connectives are descriptively. To figure out what a Explanation, Information report, Procedure and the others are you can find out on the images above. I learnt this by being taught by Mr Ogilvie. The tool I used to do this task were my netbook.

Kiwi Sport | Gymnastics

LI: To explore our gymnastics skills.
This week for Kiwi Sport we did gymnastics. Our gymnastics teacher Steve Asked us to do some warmups before we started. Our warmups were stretches to make sure we were flexible and wouldn't injure our selves.
The stretches we did were:
1. L shape - A L Shape is sitting on the ground stretching your legs infront of you and putting your arms strait up in the air.
2. Back/Front/Side Support - A Front support is like doing a push up but being frozen when you go up. A back support is the same as a front support but your doing it on your back and you have your fingers facing your toes so that if you fall you can bend your arm. Lastly a side support is like the front and back support but you're on your side and you have one arm on the left or right and the other arm strait up in the air.
3. Butterfly wing stretch -  A Butterfly wing stretch is when you curl yourself up into a a ball but then you have to move your legs apart and then you put your hands on your feet and flap your legs as there butterfly wings.
4. Tuck - A tuck is you curling up into a ball and putting your hands on both of your shins but just so that you don't get black eyes you seperate your legs so that your face can fit in the middle.
5. Seal - A seal is lying on your stomach and putting your hands near your chest and then pushing your upper body up while leaving your lower body on the floor.
We had three stations and they all focused on something. Station one focused our supports, Station two focused on our balance and station 3 focused on our rolling and there was some balance. One thing I did in station 3 was a forward roll down a small slope and a box.

Maori | Maori Stories

LI: To identify what Patupaiarehe are.
First Whae Odie read as the same story as last week. After reading the story she asked us if we can right down what Patupaiarehe are. To find out what a Patupaiarehe is look on the document above. After we completed that task we had to go on google maps and search up where Hunua, Waitakere are located. I learnt this by being taught by our maori teacher.

Kiwi Can

LI: To define what honesty is.
This week in Kiwi Can our new theme and topic was Integity and Honesty. Integrity means doing the right thing and Honesty means doing what you said you will. Our new catch phrase is speak to me truthfully, that is called honesty! First we had our energizer called 3 sports. To play you need to eather do a Boxing, Basketball or Karate pose within three seconds. Next Mrs Paige would turn around and say one of the three sports, The people who did the sport that Mrs Paige called is out. Next we had our activity and that was called Role Play. In groups we were given a situation about honesty. We needed to act out showing how to be honest. the situation that my group was given was the cashier gave someone the wrong amount of change. You can view our roleplay above in the video. I learnt this by being taught by The Kiwi Can leaders.

Commenting

LI: To make a smart comment.
Today for commenting I commented on my friend Andrew's blog post about SSR Selfie. In my comment I had to include what the blogpost or DLO might need changing so that we can help them learn on what to improve on.

SSR Selfie

LI: To summarise and retell a text.
This week for SSR Selfie my book was called Force and Motion. My book is non-fiction and it tells you about what force and motion is and how it works. I also had to answer questions like what the book title is, who the author is, who the illustrator or photographer is and more on the slide above. I learnt how to do this by being shown by Mr Wong. The tools I used to learn this skill were just my chromebook.

Maths | Expanding Horizons

LI: To learn adding in parts and place value adding. .
Mr Wong's maths groups had made a chart for adding in parts and place value addition. Mr Wong had linked us into a PDF which had four different problems in it. We had to work out these problems using these strategies.
What is Place Value Addition? - Place value addition is when you have big or small amount numbers for example 3285 + 3728. You first add the ones up to the biggest place value unit in the number. The biggest place value unit is thousands.
What is adding in parts? - Adding in parts is also  when you have numbers. You need to try find teh answer by making tidy/super tidy numbers. ( A tidy/super tidy number is numbers ending with 0. A super tidy number is a number that has more than 2-3 0's.). You need to add the numbers that you think is the most tidiest numbers.

Writing | Simple, Compound and Complex sentences

LI: To show an increasing knowledge of how a range of text conventions can be used appropriately.
This week in writing we learnt how to write a simple, compound and complex sentence. A simple sentence is just one idea. A compound sentence is 2 simple sentences and a conjunction ( For, And, Nor, But... ). And a complex sentence begins with a conjunction and seperates the ideas with a comma. I learnt this by being taught by Mr Wong.

Basic Facts

LI: To remember basic facts
This week for basic facts I had to answer which are addition, subtraction, multiplacation and division. I did Addition and subtraction up to 5 because I knew it would be quick for me to complete. Reading | Wild Life Play

LI: To explain in fewer words what the text is about.
This week in reading we were task with learning a play. The play my group is doing is called Wild Life. first we had to summarize what the book is about. The first part to complete this task was to choose six new or instersting from the play. Next we had to Define 3 of those new or intresting words. Lastly we had to summarize what the play is about in 25 words or under. Then we were tasked with another goal. We had to write down 4 of our lines in the play and then write who we are saying our lines to. We also had to write the expression/emotion that we will use when saying our lines. Lastly for our 2nd task we had to write down what our charecter is trying to achieve and words that portrait your charecter. The final task was to run through the whole play with Mr Ogilvie. I learnt this skill by being taught by Mr Ogilvie. The tools I used were just my netbook.

Sailing

LI: To learn how to sail.
This week 18 kids went out to have a go at sailing with the volvo sailing club. Huge thanks to Rotary and Yaughting New Zealand for letting us have a chance at sailing because I loved what happened down there and it wouldn't of been posible without them letting us come down and have an amazing time sailing. Our instuctors were called Justin, Steven and J.R. The first step we learnt to become sailers was to assemble your boat with your partner. Me and Spelman had to try and not be hit by the boom because that nearly happened to me last year. Next we put on some sunblock and had some morning tea before we started sailing because we were out there for 2 hours. We had a toilet break and then we started our sailing. We sailed 3 and a half to nearly 4km ( kilometers ) but we sailed around about 3.37km. Once we got back we had some food, more sunblock and another toilet break. for the last sail we got wet and wild. The instuctors threw little balls and squirt guns out into the water for us to get. One of my favourite bits was to stand on the front of other people's boats including Mr Wong's. then we were allowed to cap size our boats in order to earn our certifacate. Then we all sailed back got changed filled out a form and left. We learnt this skill by being taught by the intsructors ( Justin, Steven and J.R ).

Maori | Legend of Mt Mangunui

LI: To learn about Mt Mangunui and how it is where it is now.
This week the year 5's learnt about the legend of Mt Mangunui and how it was moved into place. After Whaea Odie read us the legend of Mauao ( Mt Mangunui ) we had to search up places on google maps related to the legend of Mauao. The places we searched up were Hairini, Maungatapu, Waimapu River and Kaimai. The tools I used to do this were my netbook and the apps I used was just google maps. I learnt this information by being taught by Whaea Odie.
