Summer Learning Journey D3T2

For our task today we were doing a task called What are you doing today?. In this task we have to rearrange Maori words to make a sentence.

The first sentence we arranged is "What are you doing today?" The translation of that sentence is "Kei te aha koe i tenei ra?"

The next sentence we arranged is "I am going to.." In this one we had to add the right Maori word from a pile of words. I chose papa takaro which means field or playground. So the sentence would be "I am going to the field/playground."

The final sentence we arranged is the same as "I am going to.." but we get to choose any word. I chose kaukau which means swim. So that means the sentence would be "I am going to swim"

This task was hard because I'm not that good at understanding Maori.

  1. Kia ora Oscar,

Fiona here from the SLJ. Happy New Year! He tino pai tō mahi! Great work rearranging the te reo Māori kupu and finishing the sentences. Ka pai! Did you enjoy this activity and learn some new words? I hope so! Today where I am it is very hot and sunny so I will hopefully go for a kaukau later today when it is high tide.

Keep up the great blogging - I can’t wait to see more of your posts over the summer.

    Ngā mihi nui,

    Fiona (SLJ).

  2. Hi Fiona,

Thanks for commenting on my blog and saying I did a great job at rearranging the Maori kupu. I did enjoy this activity a lot and I did learn some new words. I think learning new words is what made the activity fun, I really enjoy finding out new words in different languages. My favourite language to study is Japanese. Hope you had fun on your kaukau. what Maori words do you think best describes your favourite things to do in summer?

    Thanks

    Oscar

  3. Mōrena Oscar,

Thanks for your reply! That's so cool that you enjoy learning Japanese. Yūshūna! (Excellent!). I used Google to help with that so hopefully it is right. My kids learn Japanese too...but only because they watch so many Japanese anime cartoon shows! Do you like watching anime?

You have asked me a great question. I think the word that best describes what I like to do in summer is whānau. In the summer, I have more time to spend with my whānau because it is school holidays.

    Keep up the awesome blogging!

    Mā te wā,

    Fiona (SLJ).
