Kiwi Can | Positive Communication
LI: To create an understanding about positive communications.
Today in Kiwi Can we were talking about positive communication. positive communication is speaking to someone clearly and nicely. Using nice words and no harmful comments.
Energizer:
Our energizer was called "Flip the cone". In this activity we had to get in to two groups, one group would go with Mrs Grace and the other would go with Mr Simanu. There would be about 7 cones in the middle that are flipped upside down and another 7 right way up. Two players from each team would compete to see who could flip the most cones right way up or upside down. One of the Kiwi Can leaders would count up what team earned the most points.
Activity:
Our activity was called "Street Fighter". In this activity we had to get in to two groups, Mrs Grace or Mr Simanu would call out a number, each number would represent an action. for example 1 would represent a jab and two would be a jab, cross. This activty tought us good sportsmanship if we lost.

Kiwi Sport | Rippa Rugby
LI: To learn the basic skills of Rippa Rugby.
This week LS1 and other classes, had a go a Rippa Rugby down in dunkirk with Marist. Rippa Rugby is a sport were, instead of tackling people, you rip the tags off their hips. Also I have forgot to mention that you were a valcro belt with two tags on both sides of your hips.
Some Basic Rules in Rippa Rugby:
One of the main rules in any Rugby game is passing backwards, In Rippa Rugby whenever you or someone else got ripped ( got 1 or 2 of their tags ripped off of them ) you would then have too pass it backwards to a team mate. That is why it is a good idea to stay behind the player with the ball ( unless he is not on your team ). There is no kicking the ball in Rippa Rugby and an offside only occurs when there is a rip.
What we did:
The 4 things the year 6's did in Rippa Rugby were, playing rats and rabbits, playing octopus, passing drills and having a fun game. In rats and rabbits there are two teams, the rats and the rabbits. Someone calls out rats then the team of rats has to run to a certain point while the rabbits try to rip their tags. Same works for the other side. Octopus is very, very similar to the original game, but for those people who don't know what octopus is, it is a game were their is 1-3 taggers and everyone else has to run past them. Passing drills can be shown in the Yr 6 videos below. Lastly was our fun game of Rippa Rubgy were the girls proved alot better than the boys when it comes to trys.
What I learn't:
The main things I learn't were to make a little W with your hands when you are catching, to shout out a players name when you are receiving or passing and stay behind the player holding the ball. Sorry but I can't upload a video so the link to the video will be here: Yr 5's | Yr 6's

This week, we were creating an understanding about idioms. Idioms are a phrase that means something different than what it usually means. For example me and my partner chose the idiom "Stir up a hornets nest" which means to create trouble. The other group I was apart of chose the idiom, "Bull in a China shop" which means someone is being very clumsy.

Maths | 3D Shapes
LI: To create a 3D ( 3 dimensional ) art out of shapes.
This week we were creating an understanding of 3D shapes. We had to create a google drawing that represents multiple 3D shapes in a room. The tiles/floor had to be straight, not crooked. The shapes couldn't overlap with eachother so we had to put them a an angle. I enjoyed this activity because it helped me with creating geometric shapes.

Kiwi Can | Giving it a go
LI: To be confident to try new things.
Today in Kiwi Can LS1 were learning about Giving things a go and being confident. Our Theme is still positive relationships. Giving it a go means being confident to participate in new activitys.
Energizer: 1 2 3 GO!
Our energizer was called 1 2 3 GO! In this activity we had to find a partner, we had to be sitting facing them with a certain amount of space between us. Inbetween partners there was a cone, this game was similiar to bang, when a special word in a sentence had been said we had to try and beat our partner by getting the cone before them.
Activity: Pose
Our activity was called pose and in this game we had to again, find a partner and stand back to back with them. The Kiwi Can leaders would give us an action and we would have to act out that action as best we could. This activity encouraged us too not be shy and to be comfortable being ourselves.

Kiwi Can | Positive Relationships
LI: To learn about positive relationships.
This week for Kiwi Can we were learning about positive relationships, it is our new theme for this term and our topic is fairness & fairplay.
Energizer: Switch Places
To play switch places we had to make a large circle around our "new" Kiwi Can instructor Ms. Grace, the person in the middle of the circle has to say something they like or like doing. If someone else likes the same thing as the person in the middle they have to switch places with someone else.
After our energizer we had a discussion about our topic and our theme, we were talking about what a positive relationship is, a positive relationship isa healthy bond between two people.
Activity: Pizza Tag
Pizza tag is similar to the game Fruit Salad, except you choose 4 toppings that you want to be. Our group ( The Year 6s ). chose Cheese & Garlic, Hawaiian, Meat Lovers & Pepporini. I chose to be Cheese & Garlic. Whenever the chef ( Tagger ) says a topping e.g: Cheese & Garlic, that team has to run to the other side of the playing field. Whenever you get tagged you're now a tagger, Every cook can move around to tag people.

Whats my name worth?
LI: To find out what my names are worth
This week in LS1 we had to find out what our names were worth. First we had to find the value of each letter in my name, next we had to add up all of those numbers ( My letters in my name add up to 29 ), now because we had to end on a single digit number I added up my number ( 29 = 2+9 = 11 ), then I added the last two numbers ( 11 = 1 + 1 = 2 ), My final numbers is 2.
Each one digit number had a challenge we had to complete the challenge given to us, I had to do my best twerk for 5 seconds.
Treaty Of Waitangi | Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Today in LS1 we were learning about Te Tiriti o Waitangi. For this activity we had to summarise about what happened in the Treaty of Waitangi. We also had to do the 5 W's. We first had to write down 20 important words from the book about the Te Tiriti o Waitangi. I enjoyed this task because I learn't new things like, that there were 7 copies of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Self Portrait
LI: To create a digital self potrait.
This week in LS1 we are creating self potraits. We had the option to choose two different techniques. I used the curved technique, the other technique we could choose were shapes ( Circles, Triangles, Squares, etc. ). A tip that we got was to start from the closest to the wall and then end on the furthest body part from the wall. This piece of art took me about 5 days to complete.

Maritime Museum Madness
LI: To study the history of New Zealand explorers.
We went to the Maritime Museum to find out about explorers. I saw a lot of different boats that looked like Wakas and Kayaks. One of the things I found out was a great New Zealand Sailor. I had to watch a video about the first explorers and how they found Aoteroa. I enjoyed the trip because I learnt lots of new things like how Paul Caffyn kayaked around the South Island of New Zealand.
Crazy Cricket Chaos
LI: To develop fundamental movements in Cricket
We did our first session of Cricket with Brian from HPCC ( Howick Pakuranga Cricket Club ). I did a session on throwing a ball at a set of stumps. We also did an activity where we had to hit 2 balls off cones as far as we could. Lastly we did a catching drill with 2 ball in a big circle. I was very tired at the end from all the runnning, I need to work on my batting.

How to make a safe/secure password | Cybersmart
LI: To learn how to make a safe and secure password.
Today in LS1 we we're learning how to create a safe password. The two ways we learn't were two random words stuck together to create a phrase ( Try to make sure that both of the words are quite different ), The other way we learn't was making a phrase and turning it in to an acronym. An Example for the first method would be "Soft Concrete" or "Hard Pillows". An example for the second method would be, "sgsop" which stands for short giraffes standing on people. For both methods you can add punctuations, numbers & capital/lowercase letters.
